FIBER WITH A PURPOSE

The Clun Forest are a "down breed," producing thick, fine wool with a high crimp that is ideal for spinning and knitting into soft, elastic yarn. Each sheep on our farm grows about 6-8 pounds of fleece per year, measuring anywhere from 3.5 to 5.5 inches in length, depending on the individual. With a natural creamy, white color and a consistent staple length that resists felting, this fleece is ideal for many projects, from squishy, soft sweaters and mittens, to thick blankets and rugs.

Product Details

These premium locks have been hand sorted from the raw, unwashed fleece of Abigail. She is a purebred Clun Forest sheep and consistently grows fleece that is soft and thick.

Abigail is one of the matriarchs of our flock. Her two daughters, Annie and Alison, have inherited her fine fleece, as has her daughter Amanda Ivy and her grandson Kai. Our entire flock is 100% grass fed and pasture raised year round. As they live outside and are never coated, you may find a few pieces of grass and seed, but they are easily picked out. There is plenty of lanolin in the fiber as well, but that washes out easily, leaving a creamy white fiber that is a dream to hand spin.
By purchasing this fleece you are supporting the preservation of a heritage breed designated by the Livestock Conservancy as "threatened" in the United States. We participate in their "Shave 'Em to Save 'Em" program and, with a minimum purchase of 4oz, we can provide you with a sticker for your passport!
